Homework
- Students should read every night for 15-20 minutes. Reading bags are sent home every Monday and should be returned to school each Friday.
- Be an active listener as your child reads. Allow him or her to use strategies to solve unfamiliar words and praise him or her for success. Have a conversation about the book to monitor and build comprehension.
- Encourage your child to reread books multiple times. He or she may enjoy reading to several friends or family members (even over the phone or via Skype!). Praise your child for maintaining fluency (accuracy, rate and expression) while reading aloud.
- Math homework packets will be sent home every Monday. These packets will not be due until the following Monday. Family time is very important

Home Reading Helper
Read Charlotte recently launched the Home Reading Helper.
The site was especially developed for Charlotte-Mecklenburg parents and guardians to find free, easy-to-use resources all in one place to help their children learn to read at home.
"We know it is the combination of what happens at school and at home that grows a proficient reader," said Munro Richardson, Read Charlotte executive director.
Home Reading Helper spans pre-kindergarten through third grade, offering age-based and skill-based easy-to-use information, videos, games, home activities and more. With the tagline, Your Child's Success Starts With You, it aims to give busy parents exactly what they need to boost reading skills at home, as well as resources for families who might be unsure of where to turn if they have a struggling reader. Plus, the site is enabled with Google's machine language translation abilities so that the website's text and video subtitles can be translated easily into nearly 100 additional languages.
